The Executive Committee of the Spanish Federation of Food Banks (Fesbal) was received this Friday in an audience by King Felipe VI at the Palace of La Zarzuela, on the occasion of its 30th anniversary.
During the meeting, the committee presented the work that Fesbal has carried out over these three decades, providing access to «dignified food for millions of people in vulnerable situations and giving a second life to a large amount of food to avoid waste, thus contributing to environmental care.»
Likewise, the audience addressed the main challenges currently faced by Food Banks, as well as the planned work lines for the coming years. Fesbal has also expressed gratitude to Queen Sofia for her demonstrated support in her visits to Food Banks throughout the national territory as well as in the congresses organized by the Federation.
It also highlighted its solidarity collaboration through the Queen Sofia Foundation since its inception in 2012, which has helped «numerous families move forward.» Queen Sofia, through her Foundation, actively collaborates with Fesbal through various projects and agreements. Additionally, she has presided over several congresses of the Spanish Federation of Food Banks. In 2025 alone, the Queen Sofia Foundation has contributed over 600,000 euros to Food Banks.
Fesbal, founded in 1995, works in the fight against hunger, poverty, and food waste by utilizing and distributing food to the most needy, while also contributing to improving the environment. It is composed of 54 associated Food Banks from all over Spain.
In 2024, the banks associated with Fesbal distributed over 115,000 tons of food to 1,036,890 people in need, through a network of 6,062 charitable institutions, thanks to the efforts of 3,480 people who volunteer permanently and nearly 100,000 people who participate in the annual Great Collection campaigns.
