The management of Sargadelos company and the Consellería de Emprego, Comercio e Emigración have reached an agreement to restart production activity at the Cervo plant in Lugo, «as soon as possible».

According to sources consulted by Europa Press, the agreement was reached after a meeting held this Monday between Sargadelos’ administrator, Segismundo García, and the head of Emprego, Comercio e Emigración of the Galician government, José González.

It has been reported that there is a commitment from the Consellería and the company to conduct a study on possible improvements in worker protection.

The company has indicated that the Labor Inspection clarified in its letter dated April 4 that the levels of exposure of the workers are within legal limits and the deficiencies identified do not pose an imminent risk to the workers. It has also stated that, «taking into account the special characteristics of the building, the deadlines indicated can be flexible, if necessary».

Additionally, it has been pointed out that the Consellería offers Sargadelos full collaboration and sensitivity to implement the necessary improvements for the protection of workers’ health. Furthermore, it explains that «if as a result, it is necessary to carry out new works to adapt the facilities, the Xunta commits to support their implementation, taking into account the special uniqueness of the facilities, qualified as a Cultural Interest Site (BIC)».
