Sumar and Podemos will also attend the Comisión 8M demonstration, while the PP will leave it up to individuals
The PSOE will attend the Comisión 8M march in the capital this Saturday, March 8, as confirmed by socialist sources to Europa Press. However, they do not plan to attend the one organized by the Feminist Movement of Madrid. Meanwhile, the socialist Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo, will attend both.
In this regard, the Minister of Equality stated on Wednesday at the Informative Breakfast organized by Europa Press that she plans to attend both feminist demonstrations that will take place in Madrid on International Women’s Day.
«I do not feel unwelcome in any feminist associations, not at all,» she said, adding that «when one goes with honesty and the ability to understand, there is no reason to be unwelcome.»
On the other hand, Sumar and Podemos will also participate in the Comisión 8M demonstration in the capital. This march will start from Atocha at 12:00 with the slogan ‘Feminists against racism, to the streets! Our lives depend on it,’ and will end at Plaza de España. According to the organizers, it is a demonstration against racism and for the rights of «all.»
Meanwhile, the Feminist Movement of Madrid will start at 6:00 p.m. from Plaza de Cibeles and will also end at Plaza de España, under the slogan ‘Women in the fight against global machismo.’ The organization stated that they will take to the streets «to continue defending women’s rights and ensuring that feminism is abolitionist,» marching alongside the «far right» and the «complicit left.»
Last year, about 34,000 women marched through the streets of Madrid in two marches organized by Comisión 8M and the Feminist Movement of Madrid, according to official data provided to Europa Press by the Government Delegation.
In 2024, the PSOE and socialist ministers of the Government once again aligned with the march organized in Madrid by Comisión 8M, attended by seven female ministers, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, and the wife of the President of the Government, Begoña Gómez. The Government’s coalition partners also attended the same march, as usual, with their own banner of Sumar. Within this coalition, Más Madrid also participated. Podemos and former Minister Irene Montero also attended the march with their own slogan.
On the other hand, the PP has stated that the party leaves it up to each individual to attend or not attend the marches.
MADRID, SEVILLA, AND BALEARIC ISLANDS HOST EVENTS BY POLITICAL PARTIES FOR 8M
Regarding the party events, Sumar, Podemos, and PP have organized events to commemorate International Women’s Day in Madrid, Seville, and the Balearic Islands. «All of them will talk about feminisms, a purple and giant wave against the far right. We must be able to imagine and create other worlds filled with hope, dignity, freedom, and joy,» the party stated in the media invitation.
Meanwhile, Podemos has organized two events on the eve of 8M, one in Madrid on Thursday and another in Seville on Friday, with the participation of Irene Montero, Ione Belarra, and Isa Serra.
