El Xiaomi 15 Ultra es un escaparate fotográfico con tecnología Leica.

Practically every flagship phone is capable of taking exceptional photos. However, Xiaomi has not let that fact hinder its collaboration with renowned camera manufacturer Leica to create a photography powerhouse in the new Xiaomi 15 Ultra.

Powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, it is evident that the Xiaomi 15 Ultra boasts top-of-the-line specifications. It also features a massive 6,000 mAh battery, which surpasses the capacities of Apple, Google, and Samsung devices. In terms of charging, wired speeds reach up to 90 watts, with wireless charging slightly slower at 80 watts, which is still quite impressive. Additionally, unlike most phones in the US market, it comes with a power adapter included in the box.

The 15 Ultra showcases a stunning 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a 1-120Hz refresh rate and up to 3,200 nits of brightness. It is available in three color options: white with an etched back, black with a textured finish, and a special Silver Chrome edition inspired by Leica’s classic cameras. The white model features elegant carvings on its back that catch the sunlight, while the two-toned metal and black variant stands out as the most attractive due to its design alignment with the phone’s capabilities.

The rear of the device houses a large circular camera module containing top-tier photo hardware. The main camera on the Ultra 15 utilizes a massive 1-inch 50-megapixel Sony sensor, while there is also an f/2.2 50-MP ultrawide camera for capturing expansive landscapes. Additionally, the device boasts two zoom lenses: a 50MP midrange shooter with a 70mm focal length and a high-resolution 200MP periscope array with a 100mm focal length, providing a 4.7x optical zoom capability.

Although limited time has been spent fully testing its capabilities, the Xiaomi Ultra 15 appears to offer one of the most comprehensive photography toolkits available. With Leica optics, large sensors, and versatile lenses covering a wide range of focal lengths, it caters to various photography needs. Moreover, the device includes preset Leica filters like Vibrant or Authentic, enhancing the collaboration between the two brands.

Furthermore, Xiaomi has introduced a separate Photography kit for the Ultra 15, featuring an add-on camera grip with physical controls and a dedicated video button. The kit also includes a case allowing attachment of a standard 67mm filter adapter, enabling the use of professional camera accessories with the device. Notably, Xiaomi handsets retain access to Google services, unlike some Chinese counterparts, ensuring seamless app availability through the Play Store. The HyperOS 2 software skin offers a clean and user-friendly Android experience.

While the Xiaomi 15 Ultra will be globally available starting at around €850, there are unfortunately no plans to launch it in the US market. This is regrettable as there is a lack of similar high-end handsets in America, making it a missed opportunity for consumers. This article was originally published on Engadget at .
