Escobar invita a los logroñeses a disfrutar de la renovada calle Sagasta, un proyecto de ciudad.

The mayor of Logroño, Conrado Escobar, has encouraged the people of Logroño to «enjoy» the renovated Sagasta street, which he has stated represents «a city project». A work, whose final result, he has highlighted, has been «satisfactory».

It was at the inauguration of the renovated Sagasta street, where two members of ‘Rioja Filarmonía’ set the mood for the moment, and where, in addition to Escobar, the councilor of Urbanism, Íñigo López-Araquistáin, and the academic chronicler of the city, Isabel Murillo, spoke.

The other chronicler of the Riojan capital, Federico Soldevilla, was in charge of guiding a walk through the emblematic street, making stops at the Ponce Alley – whose house was acquired by Diego Ponce de León, the first treasurer of the collegiate council of La Redonda by papal decree of 1513, giving access to its garden – or the San Blas Market, and ending at the municipal ludoteca La Oca.

Escobar has emphasized that the street «is for the enjoyment of all Logroño residents», of a work whose final result «is very satisfactory, and to put it colloquially, it has turned out very well». «This work is not from the current Corporation, but from the entire city,» while recalling that the action «also began in the past legislature, with another Corporation, which had the determination to undertake this work.»

In this sense, he has pointed out that «everyone has to give their best to make, in this case, a city project, start working no more and no less than that.» He has also stated that «it will be an accelerator of the local economy.»

On his part, López-Araquistáin highlighted that the action «has changed the face of one of the most emblematic arteries of the city», allowing «not only to beautify our urban environment, but also to promote a safer, more accessible and sustainable city.»

Precisely, this councilor has been in charge of detailing what this action has consisted of, awarded to the company Obras de Construcción e Instalaciones for an amount of 993,269.83 euros (excluding VAT).

The remodeling of Sagasta street has allowed for a coexistence platform in sections, with a focus on pedestrian traffic, and the creation of entry gates at the crossings of Ruavieja and Muro de la Mata, increasing safety in the area. The executed project has also included the renovation of services (sanitation, lighting, etc.) on this street in the Historic Center, which also connects the center with the north of the city.

## PERFORMED ACTIONS

The remodeling has included the installation of ‘entry gates’ at the intersections of Muro de la Mata and Ruavieja, as well as the widening of sidewalks in the section of Sagasta between Carnicerías and Marqués de San Nicolás streets. Podotactile pavement has also been installed at intersections and pedestrian crossings.

Devices have been installed to improve pedestrian and vehicular crossing safety at the intersection of Sagasta and Portales streets through coils and light signaling. The quality of the pavements has been improved, organizing the different spaces through these elements.

Urban furniture (bollards, vertical signage, trash cans, planters, etc.) has been updated. Existing services have been renovated, sanitation, water supply (new drinking water distribution pipe throughout the street), and new luminaires with LED technology have been installed. Telecommunications and electrical supply facilities have been improved, eliminating aerial crossings of these networks. The action has also included archaeological work in the area and has incorporated into the final design of the street several differentiating elements with a clear emphasis on the city’s identity signs.

Thus, cobblestones with phrases from the Logroño Anthem, images of the pilgrim’s shell in reference to the passage of the Camino de Santiago through this area, tiles with grape clusters, and a nod to the city’s skyline have been placed. San Blas Market and Ponce Alley.
