Lucas has stated that the PSOE «is defending the interests of citizens, with a real alternative for government.»
Ginés Ruiz has been ratified as the new Secretary General of the PSOE in the municipality of Murcia during the Assembly of Delegates of the Socialists’ Association of Murcia Gran Ciudad, held at the Artillery Barracks.
The socialist membership has also unanimously supported the new Municipal Executive Committee that will lead this new phase of the party in the municipality. With 36 members, the Executive Committee reinforces its commitment to youth by keeping its two Vice Secretaries General, Alejandro Toledo for Coordination, and Paula Ferrer for spokesperson and neighborhoods, and appointing Amparo Marzal, a long-time socialist, as president.
The event was attended by the Secretary General of the PSRM-PSOE, Francisco Lucas, who accompanied Ruiz in a meeting marked by unity, collective commitment, and the will to promote a solid alternative for the future of the municipality.
During his speech, Ginés Ruiz stated, «We have the responsibility to build a project that attracts and convinces all those who expect us to take a step forward with determination and courage. For that, we must take care, recover, and attract. Take care of those who are already with us, recover those who were here before and are not now, and attract those who are not yet here, but will join us.»
With these words, the new Secretary General of the PSOE Murcia has inaugurated a political phase focused on building ‘The Murcia that is coming’, a collective project that focuses on social justice, defense of public services, and the well-being of the people.
Ruiz emphasized that the PSOE of Murcia will work for a municipality accessible to all, «where children do not suffer extreme temperatures in classrooms, where young people find healthy leisure options, where it is easier to engage in sports than to enter a gambling room, and where the elderly can enjoy their time in a healthy way, like sitting in the shade without having to pay for a drink on a terrace.»
He also advocated for sufficient and efficient public transportation that allows us to breathe quality air; and a Murcia that does not continue to destroy its heritage and, with it, its identity, and therefore, its future.
«That is the Murcia we want and that is the Murcia that is coming,» he affirmed, emphasizing that this project «we have to weave together with civil society, with unions, neighborhood associations, merchants, with the world of culture, and with all those who are tired of a Murcia that does not take care of them, and with which we are not satisfied. Because Murcia can be much better than it is, and it will be with our help,» he assured.
To conclude, he addressed his colleagues to thank them once again for the trust placed in him, reiterating his firm commitment to the socialist project, to Murcia, and to those who inhabit it. «My commitment is clear: to work, side by side with all of you, so that this party, hand in hand with the society that trusts us, can make that project of the Murcia we all long for a reality.»
## A REAL ALTERNATIVE FOR GOVERNMENT AND BOLD PROPOSALS
On the other hand, the Secretary General of the PSOE in the Region of Murcia, Francisco Lucas, has stated that the Socialist Party is above all defending the interests of citizens, with a real alternative for government. «We are demonstrating this by making bold proposals, such as our offer of an agreement to approve regional budgets without red lines, in order to prevent the region from being held hostage by the far right and to have budgets focused on solving the real problems of the people,» he added.
In this context, the socialist leader emphasized that the PSRM-PSOE has proven to be «a useful party, the first step to regain the trust of the citizens and be a real alternative for government,» and regretted that López Miras chose to negotiate the regional budgets with the far right.
«López Miras has chosen radicalism. He has chosen to submit to the constant blackmail of the far right, to submit to their delusions. He has chosen denialist, sexist, and xenophobic budgets, which cut labor rights and attack social dialogue. He has chosen budgets of shame,» he affirmed.
Similarly, Francisco Lucas pointed out that it is time to take action and focus on the real problems of the citizens, in contrast to a pact between the Popular Party and Vox «that does not meet the needs of the Region of Murcia.»
«We will talk about the young people who cannot emancipate themselves, those who do not have public transportation, the high levels of pollution, the students who cannot attend classes due to the heat, the lack of resources in the fire stations, the thousands of patients left unattended while the Popular Party closes clinics and hospital beds in the summer. And, most importantly: we will offer an alternative, a real alternative,» he indicated.
Next, the leader of the socialists in the Region thanked all the colleagues from the municipality of Murcia for the lesson of responsibility and unity they demonstrated during the process of organic renewal of the Socialist Party.
To conclude, Francisco Lucas congratulated all the colleagues who are part of the new Municipal Executive Committee of the Murcia Gran Ciudad Association, as well as Ginés Ruiz for his ratification as Secretary General of the municipality.
«Ginés, I am by your side to defend a Murcia with more social justice, with a higher quality of life, with more opportunities. A Murcia where all people have the same opportunities, regardless of where they live. A Murcia that looks to the future with hope, ambition, and determination,» he concluded.
