The UPN president, Cristina Ibarrola, has accused the president of the regional government, María Chivite, of being «unable to take advantage of all the potential that Navarra has.» She highlighted that companies like Sunsundegui, BSH, or Nano «are having problems continuing their activity and maintaining employment» to criticize that the regional government «at the moment» does not offer «any solution.»
This was stated during her speech at the general assembly of UPN members, held this Saturday in Tudela, where she stated that «million-dollar investments and companies choose to establish themselves in other communities like Aragón without analyzing why and changing their policies for Navarra to become attractive again.»
Additionally, she criticized that a law on industry, «questioned by the Navarrese industrial sector itself,» is being presented as a solution, and an announcement of an industrial investment plan has been «improvised» without a timeline, specifics, or budgetary commitment, as reported by the regionalist party in a press release.
She also added, «the uncertainty generated by Trump’s tariff policy, a tough blow to our economy, especially for key sectors like agri-food and automotive.»
In light of this, she asserted that «this socialist and Basque government we have does not inspire confidence in companies, it drives them away.» «Navarra cannot progress if it does not regain its industrial pulse,» she stated, emphasizing the importance for UPN of «how to generate wealth» rather than focusing, as the government does, on «how to redistribute,» because «you cannot redistribute what is not generated.»
Ibarrola stated, «we need politicians who truly defend the Foral Regime of Navarra, who defend with determination and genuinely the interests of Navarra, who make good use of our self-government and fiscal autonomy to reposition Navarra as a competitive, attractive, reference region that generates opportunities, leveraging all of Navarra’s potential.»
She lamented that «the Government of Navarra is not making good use of the mechanisms that allow self-government and the Foral system to give the necessary boost to the agrarian and industrial sectors, essential for the regional economy.»
On another note, the UPN president criticized that «sanchism has imposed a way of doing politics where falsehood, lies, and sterile debates that only seek to divide society and prioritize partisan and personal interests over the general interest of citizens have become normalized.»
She also condemned that «the sectarian and anti-progress bloc of EH Bildu and PSN has allowed terrorists to continue teaching minors, municipal spaces to be used for acts of terrorism glorification, and public funds to finance events that exalt terrorism or violate human rights.»
«It has become so commonplace that many people no longer see it as a scandal because there could be an even worse one tomorrow. They have turned the unacceptable into routine. And that is devastating for democracy,» she warned.
In contrast, Ibarrola advocated for «well-exercised politics» as «a wonderful way to serve society.» «It is the politics that we understand and that we will not tire of advocating for. Honest, responsible, sensible politics. Politics based on truth,» she concluded.
