Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo, has emphasized that gender-based violence «concerns society as a whole» following Anagrama’s announcement to indefinitely suspend the distribution of the book about José Bretón.
«Feminism progresses and helps progress. Gender-based violence concerns society as a whole. We stand with Ruth on the right side,» Redondo stated on Thursday in a post on social media X.
Anagrama publishing house communicated on Thursday that it voluntarily maintains its decision to respect the Prosecutor’s request for precautionary measures to halt the distribution of the book ‘El odio’ by Luisgé Martín, which contains confessions from José Bretón about the murder of his children in Córdoba in 2011. Despite the subsequent denial, they have suspended the distribution of the work ‘sine die’.
In a statement, Anagrama expressed «absolute respect» for the mother of the children, Ruth Ortiz, and regrets the pain that the information disclosed about the publication and distribution of the book may have caused her.
Anagrama has affirmed that the sole author of the work is Luisgé Martín and has refuted any claims of «payment of any kind to the convicted perpetrator of the horrific crimes committed in 2011.»
