Nuevo encuentro entre Gobierno y CC.AA para repartir menores migrantes no acompañados

The Government and the autonomous communities meet again this Friday at the Sectorial Conference on Youth and Childhood to address the distribution of unaccompanied migrant minors.

According to ministerial sources, the meeting, which will begin at 11:00 a.m., will inform the autonomous communities about the draft royal decree regulating the procedure for the relocation and transfer of unaccompanied migrant minors in case of an extraordinary migration contingency situation.

Secondly, the proposal for the distribution of an extraordinary credit of 22 million euros to the Canary Islands (8.5M), Ceuta (7M), Melilla (4.5M), and the Balearic Islands (2M) will be presented.

After this Sectorial Conference, the Council of Ministers must approve the mentioned royal decree on the protocolization of transfers. Likewise, during the month of July, the ministry will convene a new Sectorial Conference to finalize the last legal details. With this schedule, the ministry continues to work for the first transfers to begin during the summer.

The same sources trust that the autonomous communities governed by the PP will attend this Sectorial Conference «with a proactive attitude and with the intention of working.»

Likewise, they reproach these territories for the «blockage» of the Sectorial Conference held in May, which «has only served to delay the deadlines for the implementation of the law.» In this sense, they explain that a working attitude would have allowed for the destressing of the reception systems of communities in extraordinary migration contingency and guarantee the rights of unaccompanied migrant children.

They also accuse the leader of the ‘popular’ party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, of preferring to «follow» the «ultra and racist agenda of Vox» rather than «protecting the rights of thousands of boys and girls and the interests of territories like Ceuta and the Canary Islands, where his party also governs.»

In any case, the Ministry of Youth and Childhood commits to ensuring that the rights of unaccompanied migrant children are respected and to alleviate the tension in the reception systems of communities and autonomous cities declared in a migration contingency situation.

Precisely, on the same day as the Sectorial Conference, the Government must present the progress requested by the Supreme Court regarding the more than 1,000 unaccompanied migrant minors seeking asylum.
