The minister of Equality, Ana Redondo, has called for an end to violence against women, following the complaint filed with the Prosecutor’s Office by the deputy general secretary of the PSOE-A and spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Andalusian Parliament, María Márquez, for «harassment» and «hatred» on social media.
«A hug María Márquez, we are with you. Enough of violence against women. Machismo wants us silenced and out of institutions, but we will not allow it,» Redondo stated in a message on the social network X.
María Márquez shared a statement on ‘X’ social network on Monday, consulted by Europa Press, in which the socialist spokesperson denounces «attacks» that «have intensified» since taking on her current responsibilities in the leadership of the Andalusian socialist federation.
«I do not want to nor can I normalize that every time I share content on my social networks or those of my party, I receive insults like ‘whore, rat, scum, that I have scraped knees or how well I must masturbate’,» Márquez recounts.
Furthermore, in the statement, she emphasizes that she seeks «protection» from the justice system «because engaging in politics, or simply expressing opinions in public, cannot equate to receiving insults and sexual and macho harassment as if it were part of the ‘job’.»
