The Senate’s Equality Committee has approved the PP’s motion requesting the Government to implement a plan to facilitate the return to work of women who left their jobs after becoming mothers. The motion received 17 votes in favor (PP) and 11 against (PSOE and partners).
The initiative of the ‘popular’ party calls for the monthly publication of the number of workers with fixed-term contracts in force, whether they were active in the previous month, the total hours worked by this group, and a breakdown of this data by gender.
It also calls for the immediate adoption of «effective measures» to promote work-life balance for female workers and reduce the gender pay gap. Additionally, it demands the implementation of bonuses in caregiver contracts for large families and single-parent households, as well as a plan to facilitate the return to work of women who left their jobs after becoming mothers.
In addition to this motion, the Senate’s Equality Committee also approved two other initiatives from the PP, with 17 votes in favor and 11 against.
One of them calls for prioritizing, within the social dialogue, the rapid approval of all equality plans that have been prepared but not yet approved. This aims to «unblock the state of uncertainty and stagnation» in which «thousands of companies» in Spain find themselves.
It also requests the promotion of legal and regulatory changes to establish clear start and end dates and criteria to prevent the approval process of the plan from being interrupted by legal definitions or differences in criteria applied by the competent authority in each region.
In the same vein, it calls for the improvement of the attention provided by the Government, through the Ministry of Equality, and specifically through the Advisory Service for Equality Plans and Measures, to companies seeking «accurate information and clear criteria.»
In conclusion, it urges the guarantee that companies complying with the law see their plans approved and the removal of obstacles in the approval process, with the negative consequences this situation entails for companies and women in general.
The last motion approved by the ‘popular’ party urges the Government to recognize «the valuable contribution of self-employed women to the national wealth, playing a dual role as workers and entrepreneurs, demonstrating every day that talent knows no gender, being an example of dedication, effort, and capacity in building projects that enrich our society.»
It also calls for the establishment of specific measures to effectively increase and maintain self-employment, especially those that benefit women entrepreneurs who wish to balance their work and personal lives with greater flexibility.
Finally, it requests the implementation of a «comprehensive plan» of measures to support self-employed individuals, reducing bureaucracy, applying tax relief measures, equalizing rights with employees, ensuring a second chance, and facilitating generational succession in self-employed businesses.
