WhatsApp recently released a substantial software update with several new features. Let’s take a look at some of the key additions:
1. Chats now allow for tappable reactions, similar to adding a thumbs up to someone else’s reaction.
2. Group chats now display an indicator showing how many people are online, located right underneath the group name.
3. Solo conversations can now create events with an RSVP mechanic, which can also be pinned in the chat.
4. iPhone users have access to chat tools that allow them to scan and send documents directly from the app. They can also set WhatsApp as the default messaging and calling app on their devices.
5. Calls have a dedicated tab for making calls, sharing call links, and managing call history. Users can also add someone from a video call directly from a chat thread. Additionally, video calls on iPhones now have a pinch to zoom feature.
6. Channel admins can record and share short videos with followers, as well as share voice message transcripts on the Channels tab. They can also share QR codes that link directly to the channel.
