TikTok is working on a version of its app specifically designed for the United States in light of the likely sale of its operations in the country following demands made by President Donald Trump to the parent company, Bytedance.
‘The Information’ newspaper has reported this Sunday, citing anonymous sources, that the Chinese social network plans to launch this new application starting from September 5 in the United States.
However, users will still be able to use the original version until March 2026 to facilitate the transition, although this timeline may vary. Trump extended the deadline for the American divestment of TikTok assets to September 17 in June.
Later, the Republican president confirmed that there was already a buyer «with a lot of money» for TikTok and that he would reveal their identity if Beijing ultimately approved the transaction. «We probably need China to approve it, but I think President Xi Jinping will give his permission,» he explained.
