The Congress has approved this Wednesday in the Committee on Social Rights and Consumer Affairs a Non-Legislative Proposition (PNL) from the Popular Parliamentary Group, urging the Government to urgently transfer the direct subsidy of 5 million euros committed by the Government to the entities of the Third Sector Platform to develop social protection actions in the municipalities affected by the DANA in October 2024.
The initiative was approved with the favorable votes of PP, Vox, and Podemos, and the negative votes of PSOE and Sumar. In total, it obtained 19 in favor, 15 against, and no abstentions.
Specifically, the text of the PNL, consulted by Europa Press, urges the Government to «process and make available» this direct subsidy approved by the Government and intended for the social protection of the most vulnerable groups in the municipalities affected by the DANA, «agreeing, together with the Platform, on the necessary actions to alleviate the impact of this delay on the affected entities.»
As indicated by the ‘popular’ in the grounds, «the governing bodies of the Third Sector Platform agreed to exceptionally accept» the direct award of this subsidy that would be managed by member entities and other related organizations, «in order to develop interventions in the field of social services in the affected municipalities, always in coordination with the autonomous communities and municipalities.»
Additionally, they indicate that the Third Sector entities worked «intensely» to meet «the demanding deadlines» set by the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption, and Agenda 2030 in order to complete all phases of the process in time for the funds destined for the municipalities affected by the DANA to be deposited at the beginning of 2025.
However, they regret that «the Ministry informed the Third Sector Platform of the suspension of the payment of the expected earmarked subsidy at the beginning of the year, with a new estimated date in March 2025.»
«This delay represents a harsh blow to the planning and execution of the planned actions in the affected municipalities, to which an integrated response must be given to address the urgent needs identified by social entities,» they add.
From the PSOE, Deputy Lázaro Azorín clarified that it is «5 million euros» and not 4.7 million euros as stated in the PNL presented by the popular parliamentary group and assured that the processing of this aid is moving forward as quickly as possible after receiving the documentation from the Platform on December 20.
