It appears that Meta’s efforts to suppress a revealing memoir written by a former employee have not been successful. In fact, the company’s attempts to block the book through legal means seem to have backfired.
The book, titled «Careless People,» has made its debut on the New York Times bestseller list and has also been ranking high on Amazon’s bestseller list. Despite Sarah Wynn-Williams, a former policy director at Facebook, being prohibited from promoting or discussing the book due to legal actions taken by Meta, the book continues to gain popularity.
In «Careless People,» Wynn-Williams provides insights into the inner workings of Facebook during her nearly seven-year tenure at the company. The memoir sheds light on the company’s ambitious efforts to enter the Chinese market, as well as revealing anecdotes about the behavior of top executives such as Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg. Additionally, Wynn-Williams has lodged a complaint with the Securities and Exchange Committee, alleging that Facebook misled investors.
Meta has strongly denounced Wynn-Williams and her book, dismissing it as a mix of outdated and previously reported claims about the company along with false accusations against its executives. The company stated that Wynn-Williams was terminated in 2017 due to poor performance and toxic behavior.
Last week, Meta initiated arbitration proceedings against Wynn-Williams, resulting in a ruling that currently prevents her from publicly discussing or promoting the book. However, the book’s continued success on bestseller lists indicates that interest in it remains high.
