Microsoft made a unique promise in an ad campaign last year to expand the availability of Xbox Game Pass beyond its own gaming hardware through Xbox Cloud Gaming. Among the platforms mentioned to receive Xbox Game Pass capabilities was LG’s smart TVs. Recently, LG confirmed that the Xbox app will be rolling out to a selection of its smart TVs in 25 countries starting this week.
The Xbox app will be compatible with specific LG screens and monitors, including models such as the 2022 OLED TVs, 2023 OLED, QNED, NanoCell, and UHD TVs that have been updated to software version 23.20.01 or higher. Additionally, the app will be released at a later date on LG’s StanbyME screens. Once downloaded, the Xbox app will enable Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers to stream select titles they own or access games from the Game Pass library.
LG joins the ranks of electronics manufacturers offering the Xbox experience without the necessity of owning an Xbox console. Samsung has already implemented a similar feature, and Amazon’s Fire TV also supports the Xbox app.
