Real Madrid CF has indicated that it «has never considered giving up playing the final» of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE against FC Barcelona, scheduled for this Saturday (10:00 p.m.) at the La Cartuja Stadium and that it «understands that the unfortunate and inappropriate statements of the referees» De Burgos Bengoetxea and González Fuertes «cannot tarnish a sports event of worldwide significance».
«Facing the rumors that have arisen in the last hours, Real Madrid communicates that our team has never considered giving up playing tomorrow’s final,» the Madrid entity stated this Friday in a new official statement, with a more cautious wording than the one used a few hours before in its first text criticizing the referees.
«Our club understands that the unfortunate and inappropriate statements of the referees appointed for this match, made 24 hours before the final, cannot tarnish a sports event of worldwide significance that will be watched by hundreds of millions of people and out of respect also to all the fans who plan to travel to Seville, and to all those who are already in the Andalusian capital,» added the second press release from Real Madrid.
Finally, Real Madrid said it understands «that the values of football must prevail, despite the hostility and animosity that have been evident today, once again against our club, by these referees appointed for the final».
