The Spanish Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz (Williams) trusted in leaving behind the mistakes of this weekend at the Miami Grand Prix, thinking about a progression that should lead them to win races, after finishing ninth this Sunday at a race in the United States where «everything happened» and with little luck.
«It has been a race where everything happened. Starting with a used tire against a whole grid with new tires, due to the mistakes from yesterday, makes you come out a couple of tenths slower. I knew I was going to have to suffer, for having to use it,» he said in statements to Dazn.
«Then I had that contact with Alex that damaged my car in turn three. I was sliding on the track, still I held up pretty well against the Ferraris. Then the battle with Alex, which needs to be reviewed because the team had told me that he was not going to attack me and he didn’t hesitate to pass me,» he added.
The Madrid native added that incident with his teammate to the list of «mistakes» by Williams in Miami. «We haven’t been perfect this weekend, neither me nor the team. We have made mistakes,» he said, recalling his used tire at the start.
«If this year we are fighting between fifth and eighth, my life doesn’t depend on it either. The important thing is that we all learn so that when the opportunity to fight for the victory comes, what happened this weekend doesn’t happen again,» he added.
On the other hand, Sainz lamented bad luck with the virtual safety cars. «We were the first to stop and the Ferraris benefited from that safety car. I tried to hold them off but they were a bit faster, and yet I was able to dive on Hamilton in the last corner,» he concluded, recounting his attempt to pass the British driver that could have ended badly.
