Guadalajara is the province that has registered the most incidents since the activation of Pricam, with 28 out of a total of 36 incidents
The Government of Castilla-La Mancha has activated, at 20:15 today, the Special Civil Protection Plan against the Risk of Floods in Castilla-La Mancha (Pricam) in Emergency Phase, Operational Situation 1, for the provinces of Guadalajara and Toledo, thus expanding the activation of this Plan that had been declared in Alert Phase for all of Castilla-La Mancha since 18:00 yesterday.
The General Directorate of Citizen Protection, under the Ministry of Finance, Public Administrations and Digital Transformation, has escalated the level of Pricam after evaluating a communication issued by the Tajo River Basin Authority (CHT) informing about the increase in the discharges of several dams and the possibility of spillage through the overflow of the Alcorlo reservoir (Guadalajara), paying special attention to the Alberche river in the province of Toledo, and the Bornova and Henares rivers in Guadalajara.
Guadalajara, as reported by the Government, is the province that has registered the most incidents since the activation of Pricam, with 28 out of a total of 36 incidents that have occurred so far in the autonomous community. For this reason and given the circumstances mentioned above, at 20:18 a message has been sent via the Es-Alert system, of the National Alert Network (RAN), to nine municipalities in Guadalajara that could be affected by the rise of the Bornova and Henares rivers.
These municipalities are Membrillera, Carrascosa de Henares, Espinosa de Henares, Cerezo de Mohernando, Yunquera de Henares, Humanes, Fontanar, Guadalajara, and San Andrés del Congosto.
As for the province of Toledo, according to the CHT, the San Juan and Picadas dams, both located in the Community of Madrid, have increased the discharge flow of water. This could cause a significant increase in the flow of the Alberche river downstream of these dams, so the Emergency Service 112 of Castilla-La Mancha has proceeded to inform both the town councils of the municipalities that could be affected by the rise of the river, as well as the action groups that would have to intervene in case of emergency.
For the next few hours, there are currently no meteorological warnings from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) in force in the region, although intermittent local precipitation cannot be ruled out.
SITUATION MONITORING AND RESOURCE COORDINATION
The activation of Pricam in Emergency Phase, Operational Situation 1, implies that the Emergency and Urgency Coordination Service 112 coordinates and collaborates with the relevant town councils and intervention groups so that they can establish the prevention, monitoring, and response measures they deem appropriate in the face of the emergency situation.
The evolution of events, as well as the incidents that occur and are reported to the Emergency Service 112, will be evaluated by the Plan’s management to adapt the response level at each moment.
The activation of Pricam is part of the regional government’s comprehensive action to offer a planned response to any emergency situation in a coordinated manner and by optimizing resources.
ADVICE
The regional government advises checking official information on the state of traffic and roads to see if your route is affected by any incidents and to travel on main roads.
Do not park on the banks of rivers or in dry riverbeds, ravines, streams, and their bridges, or near them, or in flood-prone areas.
If caught driving in heavy rain, do not drive your vehicle through flooded areas. The force of the water can carry you away by making your vehicle float.
It is also important to locate the highest points in the area where you are, as you may need to head to them in case of possible flooding.
Finally, remember to call 112 in case of emergency, while encouraging all citizens to use it responsibly.
