Salary increase of 0.5% for civil servants: use this calculator to see how your paycheck changes in July – EPDATA

The Treasury has published a resolution in the Official State Gazette (BOE) this Thursday approving an additional 0.5% increase in the remuneration of public sector employees, which will be paid in this month’s paycheck. The measure affects a total of three million employees across different administrations, according to the Government.

This increase is retroactive from January 1, 2024, and is added to the 2% fixed increase that public sector salaries experienced for that year. Therefore, the total remuneration increase for that year reaches 2.5%.

Additionally, the increase will be permanent, so future paychecks will reflect it continuously.

USE THIS CALCULATOR TO SEE YOUR NEW PAYCHECK

With this tool, you can easily calculate the increase in your paycheck this month. You just need to enter your salary as of the end of 2023 and include any applicable benefits, seniority bonuses, or extra payments, if they apply to you.

The calculator takes into account all the components of your paycheck that can increase, allowing you to see how much your salary will increase after the approved raise for public sector employees.

DURING WHICH MONTHS DOES THE 0.5% INCREASE APPLY?

Since it is a retroactive payment, the worker is compensated for the time in which they should have already received that increase but had not yet received it, which in this case applies to the full year of 2024 plus what has elapsed in 2025.

Thus, the increase is calculated based on the salary the employees had as of December 31, 2023, and is applied to each month in 14 paychecks over a full year.

HOW MUCH WILL I RECEIVE IN THE JULY PAYCHECK?

For example, in the case of a civil servant with a base salary of 861.46 euros gross per month at the end of 2023, two seniority bonuses (57.18 euros), a destination bonus of 400 euros, and a specific bonus of 500 euros, a 0.5% increase would be applied to 14 paychecks (including the 2 extras).

Using the total incrementable remunerations as an example –1,818 euros annually x 0.005–, the increase would be 9.09 euros per month.

However, taking into account the extra payments, the 0.5% increase applies to the 14 paychecks for 2024 and, additionally, to the 8 paychecks accumulated until July 2025. Therefore, the monthly increase for July is multiplied by 22, which amounts to an extra 199.98 euros that would be paid in the July paycheck.

Nevertheless, the payment may be delayed if the responsible department does not have all the necessary formal elements or if there are technical reasons preventing it, in which case it will be paid in the first possible paycheck.
