The Vice President, Lope Afonso, stated that with the final approval of the project, the new «CDMAR is closer to becoming a reality and Tenerife to recover key facilities in the promotion of nautical sports, as well as for training and competition.» Afonso assured that this is a «new configuration» of this sports infrastructure that will improve the surface of the platform dedicated to sports equipment, contributing to a better defense of the beach, and projecting at the same time a friendly integration with the city. «We are undoubtedly facing another of the great sports facilities of the island that is being promoted in this term. If everything goes well, we estimate that we can start working in the last third of the year,» he said. Yolanda Moliné indicated that they want to give it «a new air» and within the objective that exists from Sports of Tenerife, within the strategic framework ‘Tenerife Activa’, includes the renovation of the different infrastructures that had obsolete facilities. «Tenerife has to live facing the sea and this center will be for all Tenerife sportsmen. From the Cabildo, we continue to promote and encourage the marine and nautical sports of the island with the new Centro de Deportes del Mar de Tenerife,» she explained. Alicia Cebrián stated that «it is essential to give everyone the opportunity to approach the sea to discover these sports and enjoy them, the coast and the climate, it is a treasure waiting to be explored and discovered.» Pedro Suárez commented that it is a «day of celebration» for people who love the sea. «Tenerife will be able to count on an installation where it can learn and achieve many things. The facilities will be magnificent and I congratulate the drafting team of the project. For the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, it is very important that this area be used by the citizens. It is our commitment to the city and the island of Tenerife,» he said. The mission of the center is to bring the sea closer to the children, youth, and adults of Tenerife through a wide range of nautical sports activities, promoting healthy lifestyles, good coexistence among groups, and the promotion of nautical sports. Specifically, it is intended that the complex will stand as the main tool for the promotion and dynamization of nautical and marine activities on the island and as a driver of the policies that the Cabildo de Tenerife deploys regarding this sector. The project includes two buildings, as well as ample free space, as a dry marina and outdoor meeting area and ramp for access to the sea from the buildings. The facility will have an updated service program, which includes toilets, changing rooms, storage, and reception, as well as the use of a cafeteria on deck.
