- At the end of the year, there were 408,320 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) customers, compared to 418,145 users in 2023.
- Catalonia, Madrid, and Galicia are the autonomous communities with the highest consumption.
- Customers using natural gas with a demand of 9,000 kWh/year would have spent 100 euros less on their tariff than those using piped LPG.
The National Commission for Markets and Competition has approved the supervision report on the piped liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) market for the year 2024. (IS/DE/008/25)
Piped LPG represents an energy supply alternative in municipalities and areas distant from the natural gas network and is present in all Spanish provinces.
Its main distributors were the gas groups Nedgia (170,279 customers), Redexis (115,133 customers), and Nortegás (89,079 customers).
Demand Evolution
In 2024, demand reached 2,074 GWh, 1.3% more than the previous year, and the number of customers was 408,320, 9,825 fewer than in 2023.
Since 2010, when there were 599,337 piped LPG customers, nearly 200,000 have switched to natural gas due to network transformation. The trend has slowed in recent years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequently the 2023 energy crisis.

Higher LPG Consumption
Catalonia (16%), Madrid (14%), and Galicia (11%) were the autonomous communities with the highest consumption. On the other hand, demand plummeted in the Canary Islands (-56.3%) and Extremadura (-31.6%), the latter due to the conversion of LPG networks to natural gas.
Supply Prices
Piped LPG is not open to competition and has a regulated tariff that is reviewed monthly based on international butane and propane prices. In 2024, its average price was 88.23 c€/kg, virtually identical to the 2023 figure.
This regulated tariff is less economical compared to natural gas. In 2024, the price of piped LPG, considering prices in December 2024, would be on average between 11% and 19% higher than that of natural gas.

Domestic customers with an annual demand of 2,500 kWh/year would have spent €185.56/year on piped LPG, compared to €167.02/year for natural gas users, while consumers with an annual demand of 9,000 kWh/year would have spent €618.41/year compared to €518.99/year for natural gas users.
