Podemos ser ‘Esa Diva’ en nuestro día a día

Melody, the representative of Spain for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, has premiered the music video for ‘Esa Diva’, directed by Mario Ruiz, who is also the creative director of the Spanish entry for the competition taking place in Basel (Switzerland) on May 17. «It’s a song for us to feel represented because everyone can be ‘That Diva’ in our daily lives,» the artist stated.

As reported by RTVE on Friday, the multi-channel premiere achieved a 16.8% audience share on Thursday night, with an average of 2,321,000 viewers and over 2.5 million contacts. «The music video juxtaposes the splendor and glamour of classic movie stars with the energy of a modern, everyday diva, showcasing the singer’s most empowered and authentic side,» highlighted the Corporation.

Mario Ruiz drew inspiration from the song’s lyrics and Melody’s personal story: «She is a true reflection of the song’s lyrics. Esthetically, we based some scenes on the divas of American cinema from the 60s and 70s, like the opening scene.» In the first part of the music video, Melody appears in a style reminiscent of Hollywood’s golden age, «absolutely fabulous,» said the artist during filming. «This looks very promising!» she added.

The video starts without music, only the sound of paparazzi flashes. Melody enters the scene arriving at an event in a classic car, attracting all the attention. From inside the car, she starts singing the opening verses of the song. According to RTVE, this part is one of the main changes in the new version of the song compared to the one Melody performed at the Benidorm Fest.

Facing away and in slow motion, Melody then moves towards a large curtain. As the image transitions from black and white to color when she drops her coat, the dance and choreography take center stage. «We wanted to create a concept of transition from a classic diva to a contemporary diva, emphasizing that anyone can be ‘that diva’ in their life because that essence is within everyone,» explained the director.

A WHIRLWIND OF STRENGTH AND BEAUTY

Midway through the music video, Melody is shown in the dressing room with her dancers as they prepare for the show. This part portrays a diva in her intimate moments, passionate about her craft, having fun with her friends, and sharing natural moments where they all show their true selves. «It’s a whirlwind of strength and effort,» noted Mario Ruiz, adding, «She is a woman born to do this work, and it shows. She always gives her best in every shot, effortlessly embodying each character. She gives her all in every second… It’s a pleasure to work with her.»

Regarding the reissue of ‘Esa Diva,’ Melody stated, «Musically, it has a lot of strength in both the melody and vocals,» aiming to go beyond the typical dance rhythm. «We didn’t forget the sounds that give Spain its roots and uniqueness, like guitars and castanets, but we wanted a more intimate beginning to show that we all have a more personal and vulnerable side. We finish the song on a high note, bursting with energy, without losing what resonates with international audiences when they hear us,» she added.

Finally, to complete Spain’s image for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, photographer Valero Rioja captured Melody as a grand pop diva, drawing inspiration from music icons such as Céline Dion, Cher, or Madonna.
