The services for victims of gender-based violence were affected on Monday due to the electrical blackout in Spain, as reported by the Ministry of Equality. The Government Delegation against Gender Violence stated that «almost all» victim support services have now been restored.
The Ministry of Equality and the Government Delegation against Gender Violence immediately prioritized the victims’ well-being during the blackout. They coordinated with the State Security Forces and Corps (FCSE), VioGén, COMETA center, ATENPRO, the 016 helpline, and other units dedicated to combating violence against women.
Working together, they successfully restored almost all services to normality. ATENPRO, the statistical bulletin from the Ministry of Equality, recorded 155,653 enrollments from 2005 to March 31, 2025. The System for Tracking Restraining Orders in Gender Violence had 19,972 installations and 4,517 active devices by March 31, 2025.
As of March 31, 2025, VioGén had 100,723 active cases, a decrease of 0.2% from February 2025 and an 18.9% increase from March 2024. There were 56,902 women under police protection with an appreciated risk level, a 0.4% decrease from February 2025 and a 9.6% increase from March 2024, with the highest number of cases in women aged 31-45.
In March 2025, the 016 helpline received 8,465 relevant calls, a 3.3% decrease from the same period in 2024. Of the calls, 76.6% were made by the users themselves, a 1.5% increase from March 2024.
