Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent, the writers of the popular series «Humans,» are currently working on an adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s 1953 novella, «The Variable Man.» This new show is being produced by Motive Pictures in collaboration with Electric Shepherd Productions, which is led by Isa Dick Hackett, the daughter of the late author. «The Variable Man» tells the story of Thomas Cole, a tinkerer who unexpectedly becomes a time traveler, shifting from 1913 to a future where he becomes embroiled in an interplanetary conflict.
Although the series is initially intended for a UK audience, there is optimism for a potential release in the US market. Motive CEO Simon Maxwell expressed confidence in the project, stating, “When you’ve got Sam and John doing what they did so brilliantly with ‘Humans’ and exploring the modern world through a genre lens, it is something that can absolutely attract broadcasters in the US.” As a fan of Philip K. Dick’s work, I am eagerly anticipating this adaptation and hoping for another successful series in this vein.
