The iPhone 17 Air, rumored to be released this fall, is expected to be Apple’s thinnest iPhone to date. However, earlier plans for the device may have focused on different features. In the Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman revealed that Apple had considered eliminating the USB-C port to create the first completely port-free iPhone.
Although Apple decided against this idea to avoid potential issues with EU regulators, Gurman suggests that the company may revisit it for future slim iPhone models depending on the success of the iPhone 17 Air. Apple is set to launch four new iPhones this year, including the iPhone 17 Air, which is approximately 2 millimeters thinner than the others. Leaks over the weekend showcased images of iPhone 17 dummies, giving a glimpse of how slim the Air model could be compared to the rest of the lineup.
Gurman also reports that the iPhone 17 Air is expected to be priced around $900, positioning it between the entry-level iPhone 17 and the higher-end models. It will offer similar battery life, a 6.6-inch screen, Dynamic Island, and the Camera Control button. While nothing has been officially confirmed yet, more details are likely to emerge in the coming months.
