Meta is introducing a new initiative to encourage individuals to generate and share photos and videos on Facebook. The company revealed that creators in Facebook’s Content Monetization program now have the opportunity to earn money from viewers engaging with their Facebook Stories.
Given that users can effortlessly share the photos and videos they upload to their Stories, this presents a convenient way to generate additional income from the content shared on Facebook. Meta has stated that the ability to earn money on Stories is accessible worldwide, contingent on performance, and Stories must be public to qualify for monetization. Creators who are not currently enrolled in the Content Monetization program can submit an application for consideration on Meta’s website.
The introduction of this new payment option is Meta’s most recent effort to entice creators to post content on Facebook rather than on Instagram or other competing platforms. In January, the company launched a «breakthrough bonus program» that provided an additional $5,000 to creators with an established presence on another social media platform for posting a specified number of photos and videos on Instagram and Facebook.
The timing of this program indicates Meta’s interest in attracting creators who may soon lose access to TikTok. While the app’s temporary rescue by the Trump administration has lessened the urgency to migrate, Meta is clearly aiming to capitalize on the ensuing turmoil as much as possible.
