Álvaro Vila has been elected this Sunday as the secretary xeral of the PSdeG-PSOE in the province of Ourense, winning with 52.77% of the votes in the primaries against the mayor of Trives, Patricia Domínguez, who obtained 46.04%.

According to party data, the mayor of Taboadela and spokesperson for the PSOE in the Diputación, Álvaro Vila, emerged victorious with 447 votes compared to the 390 obtained by Patricia Domínguez. There were seven blank votes and four null votes.

A total of 850 party members participated in the process out of the 1,360 who were called to participate, resulting in a participation rate of 63.48% of the census.

Following the results, Patricia Domínguez congratulated Vila on the outcome and applauded the party’s socialist members for their involvement in the process.

«The difference in the results came from the city, where two historically opposing factions of the party came to an agreement to achieve this outcome,» she noted.

She personally reflected that the strategy employed in the Diputación «is a mistake,» as indicated by the province this Sunday, and expressed hope for a correction.

«INTENSE WORK»

On his part, Álvaro Villa described the process as «very intense,» with a clear winner being the PSOE of Ourense and their unity that will represent the future of the party.

«There is no turning back in our philosophy of facing all electoral processes together, making decisions jointly, and accepting such decisions when necessary,» he remarked.

He went on to say that they met expectations and the results were very satisfactory. He emphasized the need for effort and full responsibility for where the party membership placed them.

Moving forward, an «intense work» lies ahead with inevitable challenges, but he expressed confidence that with the collaboration of all, they will succeed.

When asked about the changes in the Diputación policies mentioned by Domínguez, Vila continues to advocate for a «model of agreements, dialogue, and reaching agreements.» He announced plans for a meeting with the mayors to gauge whether the party’s work in the Diputación has the approval of the municipal leaders.
