Yesterday, new details emerged about the Switch 2, shedding light on features that were previously unknown. One such revelation is that Nintendo will be offering a webcam alongside the new console. However, the $50 Switch 2 Camera seems underwhelming, with footage shared by the company on Wednesday indicating it may not excel at its primary function of capturing moving pictures.
The silver lining is that Nintendo is permitting third-party manufacturers to create their own webcams for the new console. One such product is the Hori Piranha Plant Camera.
Hori’s Switch 2 camera boasts unique features not found in Nintendo’s official offering. The pot in which the Piranha Plant is situated serves as a stand and USB extension for the device. Additionally, the part housing the webcam can detach from the pot, allowing users to affix it directly onto the top of the Switch 2. This portability enables users to take their new companion on the go, even using it for video calls in scenarios like domestic flights with in-flight Wi-Fi.
Another innovative feature of the Piranha Plant camera is its built-in privacy shutter. By simply closing its mouth, users can obscure the lens, ensuring privacy when not in use.
While Hori has yet to list the Piranha Plant camera on its US website, German retailer Media Markt has priced the accessory at €40, €20 cheaper than Nintendo’s official Switch 2 Camera. With its blend of practicality, style, and affordability, the Piranha Plant Camera presents an appealing option for Switch 2 users.
