The president of the Asturian Government, Adrián Barbón, has apologized this Friday for «reprimanding» the president of the PP of Asturias, Álvaro Queipo, in the plenary session of the General Assembly of the Principality of Asturias (JGPA) held this Tuesday. «I apologize, because on Tuesday I reacted in a way that is not typical of me,» he wrote on his ‘X’ social media account in a message collected by Europa Press.
In that plenary session, where Belarmina Díaz reported that she had resigned from her position as Minister of Ecological Transition, Industry, and Commerce, the PP deputies ended up leaving the parliament. It was after one of their own, Agustín Cuervas-Mons, asked for the floor to protest against Barbón’s attitude.
The president of the JGPA, Juan Cofiño, did not give him the floor and ended up expelling Cuervas-Mons from the chamber after warning him three times. This happened in the plenary session where the Cerredo mining accident was discussed, in the Asturian municipality of Degaña, where five workers died and four others were injured.
This Friday, Adrián Barbón wanted to give his version of the events on social media. «It is true that it deeply hurt me that after Belarmina Díaz resigned, after being accountable in Parliament, the leader of the right said out loud from his seat ‘what a shame, you have no shame’ repeatedly. And that’s when I was not up to par, when I looked at him and reprimanded him for not answering the phone to the then Minister on April 5, who called him, as the leader of the right, to explain what was being done and investigated in the Blue Solving case and not only did he not answer the call, but he also did not respond to her messages to talk,» Barbón explained.
The Asturian president acknowledges that he did not act correctly and wanted to publicly apologize to the people of Asturias. «When we should be more united than ever, putting aside partisan interests, in the debate, I was not up to par and it was not edifying,» he admitted.
He added that avoiding tension and confrontation in political debate has always been one of his concerns. «I also believe it is necessary and appropriate for us to show that we are more united than ever and to allow the Government of Asturias to face the necessary regeneration, while the Justice, the Special Commission on Mining Safety, and the Inspection of Services act,» Barbón wrote.
