Bungie has finally unveiled its highly anticipated team-based extraction shooter, Marathon, providing a glimpse of gameplay and a cinematic short during its showcase over the weekend. The release date has also been confirmed: September 23. Marathon will be accessible on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, with full support for cross play and cross save.
Originally announced in 2023, Marathon has remained relatively under the radar until now. Bungie describes the game as follows:
«In Marathon, players take on the role of a Runner, a cybernetic mercenary exploring the remnants of a lost colony on Tau Ceti IV in search of wealth and power. Players form teams of three as they engage in battles against rival Runner teams and hostile security forces to acquire weapons and upgrades. If they survive, everything they have gathered can be kept for future runs on Tau Ceti IV, or they can embark on a daring journey to the abandoned Marathon ship that looms overhead.»
If you missed the live Gameplay Reveal Showcase on Saturday, you can catch up on all the action on Bungie’s website and the official Discord. The team has announced a «fairly small» Closed Alpha Test scheduled from April 23 to May 4, with larger tests planned leading up to the game’s release in September.
