The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz will not be able to face Novak Djokovic until a hypothetical final in the Montercalo tournament, the third Masters 1000 of the season, but his path to the title will be full of tough opponents, after the draw held this Friday.
Alcaraz, from El Palmar, starts the European clay court swing with unfinished business in 2025, a season that has been inconsistent and where he ‘only’ lifted the Rotterdam title. The Murcian is facing his doubts and an almost unknown scenario, as his experience in the Principality consists of one participation and defeat in his debut in 2022.
The former world number one has been sidelined by injury in Monte Carlo for the last two years, but he is confident in regaining his best form. He will need to do so to progress in a tournament where he will debut against Italian Fabio Fognini or Argentine Fran Cerúndolo. In the round of 16, he would face Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime, and by ranking, Russian Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals.
In the semifinals, Jack Draper awaits, his conqueror in the penultimate round of Indian Wells, to reach a final where Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, the top seed, or Stefanos Tsitsipas, the defending champion, are the favorites on that high side of the draw.
