It can be confidently stated that the reception for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been overwhelmingly positive. The turn-based RPG, which marks the debut of French developer Sandfall, has been garnering rave reviews since its release and has already achieved significant sales milestones. On a Sunday morning, publisher Kepler Interactive announced on social media that the game has sold one million copies since its launch on April 24, with the first 500,000 copies being sold in just one day. The BlueSky account for the game’s team clarified that this figure includes units sent to retailers and does not account for GamePass players.
Expedition 33 follows a group of Expeditioners on a mission to defeat the entity known as the Paintress, who annually paints a number on a monolith that condemns individuals of that age to death, resulting in a dwindling population as the number decreases. Engadget’s Mat Smith praised Expedition 33 as «a beautifully crafted and well-thought-out world» and described it as «a solid, enjoyable RPG.» The game is currently available for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
