The Madrid City Council and the Mutua Madrid Open presented the new stadium with a capacity for 8,000 spectators on Tuesday. This stadium will be part of the Caja Mágica, the venue for the Masters 1000 and the WTA 1000. The construction of this stadium will begin in 2026, and its official opening is scheduled for 2028, with efforts to advance this date as much as possible.
The project was unveiled at the municipal headquarters in the presence of Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida, tournament CEO Gerard Tsobanian, architect Dominique Perrault, and tennis players Carlos Alcaraz and Coco Gauff. The construction is set to start after the conclusion of the 2026 edition, aiming for completion by 2028.
Martínez-Almeida expressed the intention to start the execution of the stadium immediately after the 2026 tournament to ensure its availability by 2028. He emphasized the importance of continuously evolving the city of Madrid and highlighted the success of the Caja Mágica as a renowned sports infrastructure.
The Mayor stressed the need for the Mutua Madrid Open to remain one of the world’s top tournaments by combining the city’s architectural excellence with the best in sports practice.
