The non-profit association OdiseIA has concluded its first international Artificial Intelligence hackathon for vulnerable collectives, OdiseIA4Good, where it has promoted and rewarded the use of AI «for the common good.» In addition, King Felipe VI has been named as the honorary president.
The hackathon has been «an innovative meeting,» as highlighted by the organization in a statement, where more than 300 people participated in addressing social challenges with artificial intelligence solutions. In total, four projects have been awarded with a one-year incubation and mentoring program worth around 18,000 euros.
In numbers, this first hackathon, supported by Fundación Pablo VI and Google.org, required one month of prior preparation, three days of intensive in-person work, and 42 social challenges undertaken «to provide tools for inclusion and equity.»
The jury has selected ‘Dilo Fácil’ as the absolute winner, a project that aims to revolutionize administrative communication by transforming complex texts into clear and accessible language. ‘oChat’ focuses on redefining medication management with an intelligent solution that improves accessibility and autonomy for older people or those with disabilities. ‘TramitEasy’ aims to simplify administrative procedures for migrants, eliminating language and bureaucratic barriers. ‘ResquIA’ tackles emergency response, optimizing real-time coordination to minimize the impact of natural disasters.
Each of them has received a prize of a one-year incubation and mentoring program valued at 5,000 euros, except ResquIA, which received a cash prize of 3,000 euros.
Additionally, other special prizes have been awarded, such as access to training resources from MIOTI Tech & Business School or participation in the EIT Digital Speed Master program for projects seeking to implement AI in «purple points» or an inclusive employment platform to prevent ageism, among others.
«We have created a collaborative space where participants have developed technological solutions focused on improving the lives of people in vulnerable situations with the help of artificial intelligence. We are also proud of the acceptance of the Honorary Presidency by His Majesty the King as a recognition of the social impact of this hackathon, reinforcing its importance within the European technological and social ecosystem,» said Idoia Salazar, President and Founder of OdiseIA.
Among the artificial intelligence experts who participated were public administrations, companies, and universities, with presentations and panels led by professionals such as Carme Artigas (Former Co-Chair UN AI Advisory), Aleida Alcalde (Director of AI at the Government of Spain), Manuel G. Bedia (Director General of Strategic Planning in Advanced Digital Technologies and New Economy of Language), Mayte Ledo, Pablo Zoido (Education Lead Specialist-Inter-American Development Bank), and Miguel Escassi (Head of Government Affairs and Public Policy, Google Spain and Portugal).
