If there’s one thing I love in a game, it’s the chance to pull off insane aerial stunts. And in «Jump Truck,» a 3D solo racing game for Playdate by Tabortop Games, flipping your truck can either help you achieve victory or lead to disaster. It’s a fine line to walk, but I can’t resist pushing the limits and flipping my way to the finish line.
«Jump Truck» consists of seven levels filled with straightaways, tight turns, ramps, and platforms with sudden drops. Your goal is to reach the floating vortex that marks the end of each race track, and finding shortcuts is key to securing the fastest time. To clear these shortcuts, you’ll often need to perform daring flips. Frontflips can increase your speed and cover more distance in the air, while backflips can help you control your landing. You can execute flips using the D-pad or the crank, but mastering the coordination can be challenging while maintaining control of your truck.
As you progress through the game, you’ll unlock silly achievements like the «Soar Like an Eagle» award for spending a quarter of your time airborne on any level. While «Jump Truck» may seem like a game that only holds your attention briefly, I find myself getting drawn in for much longer periods as I strive to conquer the challenging shortcuts. It’s surprisingly addictive.
