Aston Martin presented its AMR25 single-seater for the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship this Sunday, a car that will be driven by Spanish driver Fernando Alonso and Canadian driver Lance Stroll, described as a «more manageable car» aimed at «improving driver confidence» after a challenging year.
The British team is coming back with an «evolved» car compared to last season, featuring an aerodynamic package that is «almost 100% new,» according to team principal Andy Cowell. Aston Martin finished fifth in the last Championship, struggling to translate the improvements they were making onto the track.
Alonso had to work his magic in more than one race to extract the full potential of the green single-seater, but for the 2025 season, the two-time world champion sees his team in a «much improved position.» «We learned a lot last year. In the second half of the season, we conducted many experiments to learn more about the 2025 car,» said Alonso in statements reported by the BBC.
«The simulator has been updated, so we have worked hard to develop the car with a bit more precision than in previous seasons. We have new tools, a new organization, and new people to address some of the weaknesses we identified last year, so we are starting in a much better position,» he added.
The Spaniard is entering his 22nd season in Formula 1 with an Aston Martin that has undergone significant changes in aerodynamic surfaces compared to the AMR24, with notable changes made to the front and rear wings, sidepods, engine cover, and floor.
«For this year’s car, we have taken into account the lessons and feedback from last season. We have focused on creating a more manageable car for Lance and Fernando,» Cowell stated in the team’s official statement.
«Our goals are realistic in terms of how we can continuously improve in all areas, especially now that, like all teams, we are approaching a crucial change in regulations in 2026,» he added.
The addition of British engineer Adrian Newey, formerly of Red Bull, to the team increases confidence in Aston Martin, which will be running at Bahrain on Monday for promotional purposes, as the official test will take place from Wednesday to Friday. The World Championship will kick off with the Australian Grand Prix from March 14 to 16 in Melbourne.
