The Nintendo Direct livestream on Thursday had some exciting news for Tamagotchi fans: the Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop game series from the early 2000s is making a comeback with a new installment called Tamagotchi Plaza. However, the announcement trailer may have missed out on the most exciting part. As revealed by Tama-Palace, Bandai Namco mentioned on the game’s official website that Tamagotchi Plaza will be compatible with the Tamagotchi Uni. This means that players can connect their Uni devices to the game to unlock special perks, similar to the beloved TamaTown feature. Tamagotchi Plaza is set to be released on June 27.
In Tamagotchi Plaza, players will take on the role of shopkeepers and help prepare the town for the upcoming Tamagotchi festival. Some shops will even offer local two-player options. Bandai explains the connection to the Uni device as follows:
«Tamagotchi Plaza features a linkage function with the Tamagotchi Uni. For the first time, players can connect with the latest toy model, the Tamagotchi Uni. By linking the Tamagotchi Uni, they will gain access to exclusive items, special events, and unique conversations not available in the base game, while supplies last.»
With the Tamagotchi Uni approaching two years since its release, any new features that can add freshness to the experience are greatly welcomed. For those who may have grown tired of their Uni devices and have stopped using them, Tamagotchi Plaza seems like a compelling reason to dust them off and start playing again. And even if you don’t own a Uni device, the game itself is appealing enough as a cozy experience that will surely evoke nostalgia among fans of the franchise.
