El PP llama a Milagros Tolón a la comisión de investigación del Senado sobre la dana.

The PP announced on Monday that it will call for the appearance of the Chief Executive, Pedro Sánchez, the President of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, and the Government Delegate in Castilla-La Mancha, Milagros Tolón, in the Senate’s investigation commission on the management of the dana. This information was included in the list of witnesses submitted by the PP to the commission, which also includes other officials such as the Government Delegate in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, and the former Valencian President Ximo Puig.

The PP intends to use its absolute majority in the Senate to impose its list of witnesses in the investigation commission, as it has done before, likely rejecting proposals from other groups except Vox and UPN. The decision to call Carlos Mazón was justified by the fact that he himself expressed willingness to attend the investigation commissions created regarding the tragedy. Alicia García, the PP spokesperson in the Senate, criticized the lack of explanations from President Sánchez and his government while acknowledging Mazón’s availability to provide explanations.

In addition to Sánchez, Ribera, Mazón, Bernabé, and Puig, the PP plans to call six ministers to testify, including the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, and the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska. Other officials and experts, such as José Ángel Núñez from AEMET in the Valencian Community and Miguel Polo from the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation, are also on the list of witnesses.

The investigation commission aims to analyze the management of various administrations in response to the dana, with a focus on potential actions for the recovery of affected areas and prevention of future disasters. The PP initiated the commission to scrutinize how the government of Pedro Sánchez handled the storm that caused significant damage in Valencia, claiming over 220 lives. The blame for the catastrophe is disputed, with the PP holding the central government responsible while the PSOE and its allies point fingers at the Generalitat.

The first session of the commission took place a few weeks ago, where the PP and PSOE reached an agreement on the composition of the Mesa. The commission, predominantly comprised of senators from affected regions, will continue its investigations to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the dana and its aftermath. In the meantime, the PSOE spokesperson will announce the names of the witnesses proposed by their party for the upcoming sessions.
