El Racing responds epically to Mirandés
Real Racing Club drew (3-3) against CD Mirandés this Sunday in the first leg of the LaLiga Hypermotion semifinal playoff held at El Sardinero, with a own goal by Julio Alonso in the 98th minute.
The Cantabrian team salvaged a point at home after being down 1-3 with 20 minutes left. However, José Alberto’s team, who missed out on direct promotion after leading for many matchdays, kept their chances alive with epic and a bit of luck.
A shot from Jon Karrikaburu hit the crossbar and, on the rebound, the ball bounced off Alonso’s head, who had just entered the field, to make it 3-3 with an own goal. Racing dampened the enthusiasm of Mirandés, who are aiming for a historic promotion to the elite and still have the return leg at Anduva on Thursday.
The Castilian team punished the home defense with two goals in just three minutes after the half-hour mark. Izeta and a fantastic goal from Hugo Rincón gave Mirandés a 0-2 lead on the scoreboard at El Sardinero, but Mirandés also made mistakes at the back. In a poor clearance, Iñigo Vicente narrowed the gap before halftime.
Alessio Lisci’s men struck again with Alberto Reina in the second half, making it 1-3, which seemed like the final blow for Mirandés. However, Racing believed in the playoff madness and Andrés Martín scored to make it 2-3. The visiting striker even scored a second goal, which was disallowed for offside, and in the 98th minute, the 3-3 equalizer came, setting up a tense return leg at Anduva.
