The Spanish Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz (Williams) has expressed his regret for the «disastrous» weekend at the Austrian Grand Prix, where he was unable to participate in the race after his car stopped at the start and caught fire as he was about to start from the ‘pitlane’. He has called for gritting his teeth to try to overcome this situation.
«We have to see if there is any relationship between yesterday and today. Another problem, we have to see exactly what could have happened. The car was stuck at the back when I started the engine and I couldn’t move; I managed to reset it, I did a lap, it stuck again at the back and we had to retire. Many things have been happening to us lately. My first half of the year has been a bit heavy, things keep happening to us, but at some point all this bad luck will end and things will start to go well,» he said in statements to DAZN.
This all happened in a meeting where he already had problems with the car in qualifying, where he was left out in Q1 and was condemned to start nineteenth. «We had problems all weekend and now, both cars are out. It’s been a somewhat disastrous weekend for us, but we have no choice but to grit our teeth and see how we can improve,» he emphasized.
Finally, the Madrid native also pointed out that the car of Thai driver Alex Albon also had an incident and was forced to retire. «As a team, we also had a problem with Alex. We are having many problems both in qualifying and in the race, there have been several weekends where we have had brake problems, engine problems, overheating… It seems that we are a bit weak in that sense,» he concluded.
