Earlier this year, Meta announced the development of Edits, a new video editing app designed specifically for Instagram creators. This announcement coincided with the temporary removal of TikTok and other ByteDance apps from Apple and Google’s app stores. Now, Edits is finally being rolled out as Meta aims to capitalize on the uncertainty surrounding TikTok’s future and attract more creators to its platform.
Edits offers more advanced editing tools compared to Meta’s previous apps. The in-app camera allows users to capture up to 10 minutes of video and publish content to Instagram in enhanced quality. Additionally, creators can access popular editing effects like green screen and utilize Instagram’s extensive music catalog.
In line with Meta’s focus on artificial intelligence, Edits includes AI-powered features such as the «animate» tool, which transforms static images into videos, and «cutouts,» which enables precise tracking to isolate specific people or objects. Unlike ByteDance’s CapCut editor, Edits does not add watermarks to exported videos.
While Edits is launching after the return of CapCut in the US, Meta is introducing Instagram-specific features to attract Reels creators. These features include in-app post analytics and the ability to import audio tracks saved within the app. The company hints at more specialized features to come, emphasizing that the current version of Edits is just the beginning of their collaboration with creators to enhance functionality.
Edits is now available in the app stores for both iOS and Android devices. This article was originally published on Engadget.
