Illa and Hernàndez receive relatives at the Palau de la Generalitat
The Filmoteca de Catalunya will preserve the documentary collection of the director, screenwriter, and producer Pere Portabella and will ensure the «unitary treatment» of his legacy, as reported by the institution and the Generalitat in separate statements.
Portabella entrusted the preservation and documentation of a large part of his film legacy to the Filmoteca in 2017, and on Tuesday, a new agreement for the total donation of the collection was formalized.
On the occasion of the signing, the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, and the Minister of Culture, Sònia Hernández, have welcomed the filmmaker’s relatives at the Palau de la Generalitat, who is currently 98 years old.
The meeting also included the director of the Institut Català de les Empreses Culturals (ICEC), Edgar García, and the director of the Filmoteca de Catalunya, Pablo La Parra Pérez.
The material includes all of his cinematic works, unpublished audiovisual materials, and documentation related to his cinematic, cultural, and political activities.
For the institutions, the unity of the collection reflects Portabella’s unique trajectory, in which «it is impossible to distinguish political commitment from artistic excellence.»
MANAGEMENT OF REQUESTS
Thus, the unitary treatment will allow managing all requests, inquiries, and uses that may arise, especially those related to the commemoration of the filmmaker’s centenary in 2027.
In this sense, the Department of Culture and the Ministry of Culture are already working together to prepare this event, an initiative that aims to highlight the director’s trajectory and legacy.
Born in 1927 in Figueres (Girona), Portabella is the owner of the production company Films 59, with which he has produced all his films and others from Spanish cinema.
