More Switch 2 details
The Switch 2 promises exciting new features, including a larger size and a revamped approach to detachable Joy-Cons. The new Joy-Con 2 includes a C button, mouse controls, and a built-in gyroscope for tilt control. The console features a built-in mic for Game Chat, allowing players to communicate in-game. With a 7.9-inch LCD screen supporting a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR, and a 1080p resolution, the device offers an immersive gaming experience. When docked, players can enjoy up to 4K resolution on their TV, with improved internal speakers and a built-in fan in the new dock to maintain performance during extended play sessions. The Switch 2 also boasts dual USB-C ports for charging and an increased base storage of 256GB, expandable with newer microSD Express cards.
Tariffs and the Nintendo Switch 2
Following Nintendo’s Direct presentation in early April, which revealed more about the Switch 2, including the pre-order opening date and starting price, there was uncertainty due to President Trump’s announcement of tariffs on China and other countries. This prompted a delay in pre-orders for the US and Canada. However, a subsequent 90-day pause on tariffs offered some relief, although the tariff on China was set to increase further.
Despite these uncertainties, the original $450 price for the Switch 2 in the US and Canada remains unchanged. Nintendo is keeping the door open for potential future price adjustments. Manufacturing of the Switch 2 has also been shifted to Vietnam, with tariffs affecting production. To meet the high demand for the Switch 2, Nintendo may increase production in Vietnam, even if it means selling the console at a loss initially. The company is expected to face challenges in keeping up with demand, as evidenced by the overwhelming response to pre-orders in Japan.
