Organizations of women and feminist collectives have called for at least 40 demonstrations throughout Spain for this March 8, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, where, in some cases, such as in Madrid, the division of the feminist movement will be evident.
In the capital, two demonstrations are planned. On one hand, Commission 8M will depart at 12:00 from Atocha with the motto ‘Antiracist feminists, to the streets! Our lives are at stake’ and will end at Plaza de España. Meanwhile, the Feminist Movement of Madrid will start at 18:00 from Plaza de Cibeles and will also end at Plaza de España. The latter will march chanting ‘Women fighting against global machismo.’
In this sense, Cantabria will have a single march for International Women’s Day, starting at 12:00 from Puertochico towards the City Hall of Santander and organized by the Open Feminist Assemblies of Cantabria (AFAC).
In Barcelona, the Assemblea 8M will march under the motto ‘Care sustains life! We demand rights and shared responsibility to live with justice and freedom,’ starting from Plaza Universitat at 18:00. At the same time, but from Plaza Catalunya, entities like Feministes de Catalunya will march with the motto ‘We are women and we say enough.’
In Valencia, the Feminist Coordinator of València will depart at 18:30 from Calle Colón, with the motto ‘Feminism is the voice of the Revolution.’ Additionally, the Feminist Assembly of València will start at 16:30 from CIE Zapadores.
Regarding the Canary Islands, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Feminist Network of Gran Canaria will depart at 12:00 from Parque de San Telmo in a march that will end at Plaza Santa Ana. Meanwhile, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the demonstration of the Feminist Platform 8M Tenerife will start at 11:00 from Plaza La Paz to conclude at Parque García Sanabria.
In Baleares, the Transfeminist Coordinator will march in Palma on Saturday at 18:00 from Plaza de España with the motto ‘Sharpen the tools, stand up.’ Also, in Toledo, the 8M Platform will depart at 12:00 from La Vega for the rights of all women.
In Navarra, the feminist movement has called for a demonstration in Pamplona on Saturday starting at 13:00 from Parque de Antoniutti. Likewise, in Asturias, the main march will take place in Gijón on Saturday at 12:00, starting from Plaza de Toros de El Bibio. Also, in La Rioja, the Platform 8 de Marzo will depart at 19:00 in Logroño from Glorieta del Doctor Zubía.
On the other hand, Castilla y León will host various demonstrations for the 8M with calls in all provincial capitals. Specifically, in Valladolid, a march will take place starting at 20:00 from Plaza de Fuente Dorada. The Women’s Coordinator of Valladolid will march under the motto ‘#It’sOver.’ At the same time and in the same place, the Abolitionist Platform of Valladolid, Malva, the Association for the Assistance of Victims of Sexual Assault and Abuse (Adavasymt) will also march.
In León, feminism will be divided into two calls. The first, organized by the Feminist Movement of León, will demonstrate at 12:00 on Avenida Ordoño II. On the other hand, the 8M Commission of León will depart at 19:00 from Plaza de Guzmán el Bueno.
In Ávila, the Feminist Movement of Ávila has called for a demonstration under the motto ‘There are no walls for feminism.’ It will start at 12.00 in Plaza Santa Ana and end at Plaza del Mercado Chico. Also, Salamanca will host a march organized by the Feminist Movement of the city under the motto ‘Justice, memory, and equality.’ This will start at 19:00 from Plaza de la Concordia. Also, in Palencia, the Platform for Women’s Rights of Palencia will march at 13:00 from Pío XII to end at Plaza Mayor.
On the other hand, in the city of Burgos, the Feminist Coordinator will depart at 20:00 from Plaza del Cid; in Segovia, the 8M Assembly of Segovia at 19:00 from Plaza del Cristo del Mercado; in Soria, the Municipal Council of Women at 20:00 from Plaza Mayor; and in Zamora, the Feminist Coordinator at 20:00 from La Marina.
In Euskadi, the Feminist Movement of Euskal Herria will depart in Bilbao at 18:00 from the Sagrado Corazón. Additionally, feminists will march in a demonstration in Vitoria at 12:30, starting from San Antón, and in San Sebastián-Donostia, at 12:30, from Túnel del Antiguo.
In Aragón, in Zaragoza, a march is called by the Feminist Umbrella Zaragoza under the motto ‘For a livable world for all against fascism, transfeminism!,’ departing at 18:00 from Paraninfo. Meanwhile, the Coordinator of Feminist Organizations Zaragoza will also march half an hour later from Glorieta Sasera with the motto ‘Today are our rights, tomorrow will be yours. Feminist struggle.’
FEMINISM UNITED IN ALL OF ANDALUCÍA EXCEPT FOR SEVILLA AND ALMERÍA
Andalucía will also mobilize for the 8M with unitary marches convened by feminist collectives in all provinces of the community, except for Sevilla and Almería, where there are multiple calls from different organizations.
In this regard, the Unitary Feminist Assembly of Sevilla has called for a mobilization at 18:00 on Saturday in the vicinity of Torre Pelli to move to the Palacio de San Telmo, under the motto ‘We advance collectively. Diverse and combative feminism.’ On the other hand, the Feminist Movement of Sevilla will demonstrate from 19:00 from Plaza Nueva in the capital of Seville to Alameda de Hércules, chanting ‘Our rights are in danger, women respond.’
In the capital of Almería, the Feminist Collectives of Almería have called for a demonstration starting at 20:00 from Plaza de las Velas towards the Amphitheater of Rambla Federico García Lorca. Similarly, the Feminist Action Platform has scheduled its demonstration starting at 12:00 from the Municipal School of Music and Art (EMMA), ending at Plaza de las Velas.
In Cádiz capital, there is a scheduled demonstration at 11:30 by Commission 8M, going from Plaza Asdrubal to Plaza de España, under the motto ‘Shame must change sides.’ Meanwhile, in Córdoba, the Assembly 8M has called for a mobilization starting from Glorieta Cruz Roja of the capital at 18:00 and ending at Plaza de las Tendillas.
In Granada, the platform 8M and 25N and the Unitary Feminism space will depart at 12:00 from Plaza del Triunfo to Paseo del Salón under the motto ‘Feminist networks to transform life.’ The Feminist Coordinator of Granada will join this demonstration, but will read its manifesto around 13:30 at Plaza Mariana Pineda.
In the capital of Huelva, the Feminist Movement of Huelva has called to ‘fill the streets’ this Saturday in a demonstration starting at 12:00 from the old Colombino stadium to Plaza de Las Monjas, facing an ‘empowered machosphere.’
On the other hand, in Málaga, the Coordinator 8M will organize the march, departing at 12:00 from Plaza de la Merced to end at Plaza de la Constitución with the reading of the manifesto demanding ‘realities’ and advocating for the feminist agenda.
In Jaén, the demonstration is called by the Commission for Equality and against Gender Violence of Jaén and by the Assembly of Feminist Women 8M Jaén, at 11:00 from Plaza de las Batallas to end at Plaza de Santa María.
