In December 2022, it was announced that a production company had signed on to adapt Sloclap’s popular martial arts game, Sifu, into a film. Recently, it was revealed that Netflix has also become involved in the project, leading to some changes in the personnel working on the film.
Initially, Story Kitchen, known for their work on video game adaptations, acquired the rights to develop Sifu into a movie, with John Wick creator Derek Kolstad on board as the writer. While Story Kitchen is still involved in the project, Derek Kolstad has stepped down as the screenwriter, and T.S. Nowlin has been brought in to take on that role. Nowlin is renowned for his work on the Maze Runner adaptations and most recently worked on Netflix’s high-profile film, The Adam Project.
Despite the change in screenwriter, there is still a connection to the John Wick franchise in the Sifu film adaptation. Chad Stahelski, the director of all four John Wick films and a skilled stunt performer, has joined the producer team for the Sifu project. Additionally, members of Stahelski’s 87Eleven Entertainment company have also come on board to work on the film.
