US Customs and Border Protection has released a list of items that will be excluded from the reciprocal tariffs imposed by President Trump. These items include smartphones, computers, semiconductors, memory cards, and other electronic devices and components. The decision to exclude these products comes after Trump implemented a 125 percent tariff on Chinese goods, in addition to the 20 percent tariff that was already in place, bringing the total to 145 percent.
While Trump had initially announced higher reciprocal tariffs for other countries, he recently announced a 90-day «pause» on these tariffs. However, this pause does not apply to China, and there remains a 10 percent tariff on imports from nearly all countries. The electronics industry is expected to be significantly impacted by these new regulations, with companies like Nintendo and Razer already adjusting their plans for upcoming product launches in the US.
The newly published exclusions will exempt many devices and components from both the 10 percent global tariff and the higher tariff on Chinese imports. This information was shared in a notice published on Friday. The uncertainty surrounding these tariffs raises questions about how long these exclusions will remain in effect.
