The Ministry of Health has called this Thursday for 12,366 places for Specialized Health Training in 2026, an increase of 423 places compared to the previous year, representing a 3.5 percent growth. The goal is to ensure an «adequate» response to the challenges of generational turnover and to consolidate a health system based on quality, equity, and sufficient human resources throughout Spain.
This decision was reached by the Ministry of Health and the autonomous communities during the meeting of the Human Resources Commission of the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System (CISNS). They have set the MIR exam for Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. The call includes 9,276 places for Medicine, 2,279 places for Nursing, 362 places for Pharmacy, 280 places for Psychology, 29 places for Chemistry, 83 places for Biology, and 57 places for Physics.
The Ministry of Health has specified that the allocation of the offered places for the specialty of Emergency Medicine will be «subject» to the publication of the Training Program for the Specialty and the accreditation requirements that the teaching units where future professionals are trained must meet.
A specific quota has been reserved for people with disabilities and applicants who are not holders of a residence permit in Spain. In Medicine, 928 places are allocated to people with disabilities and another 928 to individuals without a residence permit; in Pharmacy, 36 places are assigned to the disability quota and four to foreign individuals without a residence permit; in Nursing, 228 places are reserved for applicants with disabilities and 23 for those without the authorization.
In the fields of Psychology, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics, the number of places reserved for people with disabilities is 28, three, eight, and six respectively. Additionally, the possibility of offering places that are expressly renounced has been added. This process will be detailed by a resolution from the General Directorate of Professional Regulation when the time comes.
This year, there will be six fewer exam venues, reducing from 28 to 22, excluding the locations of Cadiz, Leon, Girona, Caceres, Ciudad Real, and Vigo. However, the Ministry of Health has assured that they are aiming for a minimum of one venue per autonomous community.
Interested individuals must submit their applications between September 1 and September 12, 2025, using the official form 790. The general examination fee is set at 31.10 euros, except for those applying for Nursing positions, whose fee will be 23.33 euros.
The exam will consist of an objective test with 200 questions and ten reserve questions, each with four answer options, of which only one is correct. The total duration of the exam will be four and a half hours. The correction will be based on a system that awards three points for each correct answer, deducts one point for each incorrect answer, and does not provide points for unanswered questions.
