La Real Federación Española de Piragüismo (RFEP) confirmed this Wednesday that it has submitted the candidacy of canoeist Saúl Craviotto, the most decorated Spanish athlete at the Olympic level, for the Princess of Asturias Award for Sports 2025 for «a career full of successes», as well as for a «impeccable personal trajectory marked by constancy, discipline, and effort»
In a press release, the organization stated that it fulfills its desire to ensure that «the best athlete in its history receives the recognition he deserves». To achieve this, they have worked in recent months to gather important endorsements that support this candidacy and «that serve the expert jury that makes up this distinguished Award to positively evaluate their request».
In addition, the RFEP highlights that the athlete from Lleida is a reference both inside and outside the sports field, embodying «the values of camaraderie, humility, and sacrifice» and demonstrating for many years with «his work as a National Police officer». Likewise, his involvement in charitable causes reflects his commitment to society and «his desire to give back to the community part of what he has received throughout his career».
Saul Craviotto became the Spanish athlete with the most Olympic medals last summer at the Paris Olympics after winning the bronze in the K4 500 category alongside Marcus Cooper, Rodrigo Germade, and Carlos Arévalo. This medal was the sixth for the Catalan canoeist, who has two golds (Beijing 2008 with Carlos Pérez Rial -K2 500- and Rio 2016 with Cristian Toro -K2 200-), two silvers (London 2012 -K1 200- and Tokyo 2020 -K4 500-) and two bronzes (Rio 2016 -K1 200- and Paris 2024 -K4 500-), surpassing fellow canoeist David Cal, who retired in 2015 with five Olympic medals.
