The Spanish Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz (Williams) expressed his satisfaction with the progress made after securing the sixth position on the grid for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, although he must evaluate his chances of being competitive.
«I am happy with another good lap in Q3, the second consecutive weekend where I have extracted the maximum performance from the car. I am very pleased with the progress made in just the fifth race and being so close to the car’s limit, and what can be achieved. We are taking steps in the right direction, I continue to change my style and it is improving,» he said in statements to Dazn, as reported by Europa Press.
The driver from Madrid achieved his best position on a Saturday in Jeddah, but he acknowledged having a Red Bull and a Ferrari behind him. «It is the second race in a row where we have started ahead of a Ferrari and a Red Bull. In Bahrain, I decided to fight them and make it difficult from the start, which cost me the battle for points. I have to think about it, whether it is worth it tomorrow or if it is more worthwhile to fight for points for the team,» he stated.
«There is no secret. You have to take it step by step, find the limits of the car. We have to keep going like this and see how we can continue to improve. I have a fast car on the straight, which always helps, I have to think about it, I will probably feel like fighting for it, but my rational mentality will tell me that sooner or later they will weigh me down and it is best not to get into too many troubles, save tires, and figure out how to get the most points,» he concluded.
